Hi Folks, Anyone else have troubles with grizzly tools? I purchased the radius sander with a mobile base. My results weren't very good. Today, while sanding an Ukulele fingerboard,(which has no radius), I felt a distinct lump in the center of the table. It felt as though the board was "rolling" as I moved it across the width of the sander. Here is what I found: This is an overhead shot of the Teflon? coating which was factory applied. Notice the faint "X" shapein the center? ![]() Here's what I found underneath. ![]() It turns out to be an "X" of double stick tape. Maybe the sander was only for "X" braces? ![]() I haven't checked the table for trueness yet,(I'm still removing adhesive, while listening to mineral spirits blues). I'll tell you about the mobile base another time... ![]() Paul |

Umm....Paul...wow! Was the tape used to hold the coating/platten on? Holy cow! That's not a good thing. That should never have made it through inspection like that. That's poor at best. Fortunately not all Grizzly products have those issues. Shop Fox mobile base right? C.R.A.P. I just bought a small one for my edge sander....never again. Oh, they're sturdy things, but... I must have stripped out a dozen of those cheap bolts they included. I had to get some from the local Orange Giant. Even their crappy bolts were better than what came with the Shop Fox. I find them annoying to use too, with the screw knob locks and four wheels. The 3-wheel units are much easier to maneuver around, and I find that Delta makes enough sizes of their standard units that I can find something "close enough" to use for other things. Second to those are the newer units from Jet, with the foot-operated wheel locks. |

[/QUOTE] Yes Don, Not only did they put on the double stick tape "X", but they never removed the covering on the adhesive sides! The original tack on the coating was sticking it all down. The mobile base came and was too short, even though the size range was clearly printed both on the box and enclosed destructions,(instructions). They sent the wrong replacement rails twice, until I modified a set to fit. (They did include a nice shop fox ball cap so I could proudly advertise their product.) ![]() ![]() Todd, Words of wisdom!
